People are flocking to Switzerland not for the skiing, fine watches or chocolate, but to perish, a development that seems to have startled University of Zurich researchers who tracked non-citizens arriving in the country.

Switzerland has no laws (for or against) assisted suicide, a legal oddity in Europe.

The top five "Suicide Tourist" Countries were; 1. Germany with 268, 2. Britain with 126, 3. France with 66, 4. Italy with 44, 5. the United States with 21.

This is old news for us Europeans. There doesn't seem to be much to discuss. The Swiss are free to keep their laws as they please and people from other countries are free to travel to Switzerland. Its a standard globalization phenomenon.

Suicide-tourism is a nasty term. I wish the media could use something a little more respectful.

I wouldn't use the term "flocking", because there are only 600 cases in a 5-year timespan.

There are ca. 1300 suicides each year in Austria, so I guess the number is somewhat similar in Switzerland, which means the foreign share of suicides is only 10%.
