Pretty clever twist at the end - so Danny was a soldier. I think, looking back, Moffat placed some rather subtle clues throughout this series pointing to Danny's past career. It really was a very understated element to the character, so many people probably never even picked up that Danny was once a soldier.

He kept emphasizing that Danny was a medic, but it seemed rather obvious he was trying to cover up what he was.
