In 1954, North Carolina had two special elections. They were both holds, so I don't know the last time two Senators from the same state took office on the same day.

1992 in North Dakota was interesting. Conrad had promised he wouldn't run for re-election. So he ran for the special election for the other seat. Dorgan got elected to Conrad's old seat. On Dec. 14, 1992, Conrad switched seats, keeping his seniority, and Dorgan took Conrad's old seat.

The first woman US Senator, the last former slaveholder in the US Senate, and the shortest serving US Senator were all the same person.

Alaska and Hawaii, 1959, though both were new states.

She was also the oldest freshman Senator.

Too bad that the first female US Senator was so violently racist.

South Carolina 1954 was when Strom Thurmond easily won a write-in campaign.
