Hillary seems relatively weak there, but this goes for any potential match-up. Which potential GOP candidate would have the best shot at picking up IA in the general election? I'd go with Walker, a Midwestern Governor should do well there, and as far as I know there's no strong union presence in the state.

Agreed, definitely Walker.

Paul or Walker. In a vacuum Walker certainly has the advantage, but if certain other potential candidates run, Huckabee for example, enough votes could be drawn from Walker to give Paul the edge.

Bush or Walker. Jeb's brother remains the only GOPer to have won Iowa in the past 30 years, and Walker is from a neighboring, bluer state.

Probably Cruz, Paul and Carson would do well.

I could see those three doing well in Iowa's caucuses, but in the general election, I don't see how Cruz or Carson would have good chances of picking up the state.

Probably Carson, without a doubt. He's the only one of them with an IQ excelling 130. Jeb Bush might be about 130-135, the others are not all that smart.

Does Paul oppose farm subsidies?

It appears that he wants them curtailed.

So does that mean he's dead in Iowa? Does the farmer lobby still call the shots?

While I wouldn't say he's dead on arrival, it is is a hit against him. I don't think he would win as many votes as Walker, but even in Iowa, people are probably going to place more focus on issues other than subsidies.

Although the early polling of the 2016 election is not the most useful tool this far out, it can provide some benefit. The most recent poll I found from Iowa (NBC News/Marist) indicates that Paul does the best out of all Republicans against Clinton in the state, reaching a tie while all other Republicans lagged behind Clinton by a few points (on a side note, Clinton led Walker 50-37 in this poll, but I still think that if he were pitted against Clinton in 2016, he would do better than that).

Yeah, I thought this was talking about who would have the best shot at the caucuses. I probably should have deleted my post. But oh well.

As to who could win it in the General, probably Paul and Walker.

So did Ron Paul but he got a strong showing and even lead in the polls in the state for a while.

But Walker has the ability to win Iowa if he wins re-election. If not, Paul is the favorite even with his views on farm subsidies, probably because the pro-farm candidates will be split amongst everyone else.
