I don't remember that one, no.  But I do remember the 1980s encyclopedia commercial with the kid who had a report due on space:

Yes, of course.

But why do you ask?

I remember that one!

I also liked the one where the cowboys were having chips and salsa around a campfire, but find out the competitor's brand salsa is made in NEW YORK CITY!!! (emphasis there's).

Hahaha yes! I guessed what it would be before watching, even. Most memorable commercial of my youth apparently

Yup. The direction in that is crazy, with the Dutch angles and the drunken hand-held panning. Contrasts sharply with the straightforward shots of air conditioning units. A classic.

I've probably seen that commercial twice as many times as any other.  Nickelodeon used to play it constantly, probably because Sears thought the kids would pester their parents for AC as their asses became stuck to the pleather couch in the summer heat.

Woah. I actually guessed it would be that Sears commercial before I clicked the link.

I didn't remember until the conversation. Then it clicked. "You call now..." His wife was nice and sweaty. Now I know why he didn't wanna call in the first place.

They seem to be quite a happy couple on the surface, but is the interesting art direction indicative of some dark undertones?

Sears needs to make a sequel.  Maybe about washers and dryers for their sweaty clothes.

I do remember it, and I remember thinking the premise that people wouldn't have a/c was crazy. As if there were also commercials imploring people do go out and get their homes wired for electric lighting or indoor plumbing. Air conditioning is no less universal nor is it any less critical here.

It's amazing to think how even the 90s seem nostalgic sometimes. We didn't have a computer in our home until December 2000. That was even a little behind the times for many middle class families. I didn't get a cell phone until 2006 when I was 18 years old. Now I see little kids using I-Pads that even I don't know how to use.

I thought the same.  I mean, I understood some people lived in places that you don't really need A/C, but the people in the commercial obviously did.  Even poor people I knew had A/C, when I was poor, I had A/C...and the people in the ad didn't even look that poor.

The way the guy says "I'll call now" in a creepy way is still funny to me.

I'm still baffled by this. There's nothing remotely memorable about this commercial.

It was the only commercial on Nickelodeon that wasn't for a toy or cereal and it played at least once every hour, like their strategy was to get kids in hot living rooms to beg their parents to buy a Sears AC. It made no sense to any kid why he was watching it and it always stuck.

I didn't think I was going to remember, but yeah, I did. It's really that first 15 seconds (and the last few seconds) that did it for me. I can always remember that the wife's hair completely changes between the beginning and end.

Another weird thing is that they're both more attractive in the first scene with their messy sweaty hair than in the last scene with their combed cool air hair. What's up with that!
