  • Progressive Populist Party: Elizabeth Warren (PP-MA)/Brian Schatz (PP-HI)
  • Centrist Democratic Party: Andrew Cuomo (CD-NY)/Cory Booker (CD-NJ)
  • Republican Party: Jeb Bush (R-FL)/Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
  • Conservative Liberty Party: Rand Paul (CL-KY)/Jeff Flake (CL-AZ)
  • American Values Party: Mike Huckabee (AV-AR)/Nikki Haley (AV-SC)

Create a map for this 2016 scenario. Let's say that the electoral college is still in place, but it only goes to the House if no candidate gets over 175 electoral votes (no majority needed). Also, which party would you join and which party would your state's Governor and Senators be part of?

I would join the Republican Party.

I have no idea, but I'm going with this.

Pretty much agree, other than Colorado (the CLP isn't that liberal on social issues, Ted Cruz would be a member, and the CDP would be centrist enough on fiscal issues to be a good fit for Colorado) and Rhode Island (tends to have pretty centrist/conservative Democrats; would be a good fit for the CDP)

California

Jerry Brown: Centrist Democrat
Dianne Feinstein: Centrist Democrat
Barbara Boxer: Populist Progressive

Nevada

Brian Sandoval: Republican
Harry Reid: Centrist Democrat
Dean Heller: Republican

Arizona

Jan Brewer: Republican
John McCain: Republican
Jeff Flake: Conservative Liberty

Oregon

John Kitzahaber: Centrist Democrat
Ron Wyden: Centrist Democrat
Jeff Merkley: Populist Progressive

I'd jump ship to the Populist Progressives in a scenario like this,I already vote Green most of the time in Safe Democratic elections anyway.

Agree with everything except Wyden and Brewer. The PPP and CDP would represent a pretty substantial contrast on privacy/security/spying issues, so types like Feingold and Wyden would definitely fit in better with the PPP.

Admittedly Jerry Brown could be Populist Progressive as well, he's kinda on the border between Progressive and Centrist.

Also if you're using privacy as the breaker, then Feinstein is Progressive with her recent change of heart.

But Feinstein has proven over and over besides that point to be about dead centered as possible,frankly it's a wonder how she didn't win the Gubernatorial in 1990 against that stick in the mud senator Pete Wilson

Which reminds me

Pete Wilson would be Republican

Gray Davis would be a Centrist Democrat

Arnold Schwarzeneggar could be either Republican or Centrist Democrat

Phil Angelides would probably Progressive Populist, maybe Centrist Democrat

Meg Whitman would be Conservative Liberty, maybe Republican still

Neel Kashkari is probably Republican

Definitely not the breaker (it would mostly be economic issues), though certainly an important difference. I agree that Feinstein would certainly be CDP; she's proven herself consistently to be no friend of the progressive wing and her recent shift on privacy comes across pretty meaningless.

Bush/Murkowski (R) 45% 227 EV
Cuomo/Booker (CD) 41% 185 EV
Warren/Schatz (PP) 7% 79 EV
Huckabee/Haley (AV) 7% 47 EV

Blue = Bush
Red = Cuomo
Green = Warren
Gray = Huckabee

I would be a part of the Republican Party because I'm a conservative Republican with some libertarian views, but I'm not as libertarian as Rand Paul and disagree with his foreign policy.

In New Jersey, Governor Chris Christie, a moderate Republican, would be a Republican and Senators Cory Booker and Robert Menendez, both liberal Democrats, would be a part of the progressive populist party.

However, I think most New Jersey voters would be part of the Centrist Democratic Party.
