Let's settle this once and for all. Was a person who got regularly high 80s from the American Conservative Union conservative or not?

I say yes.

He was a moderate conservative Republican, but I don't think he's a moderate at all.

Many Americans who describe themselves as conservative nowadays are not conservative at all, but reactionary. That is to say that Chris Christie and Jeb Bush are more conservative than Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin, imo.

Yes, he was a conservative who also happened to be a decent human being. Something which has become quite rare nowadays.

Yes, I would consider Dole to be a conservative, and would have supported him in '96 had I been old enough at the time, and lived in the US.

Yes obviously. He's the one who started the tactic of trying to use "liberal" as a pejorative.

Thanks.

Seems he's arguing that Dole was a moderate conservative....which would be accurate...but still a conservative.

I'm pretty sure that it started well before Dole, but I'd be interested in reading about why you think that.

The main argument has always been that he constantly refers to himself in the third person.
