No, it wasn't a member of ISIS or an Iranian ayatollah. It was another fuzzy-bearded, self-proclaimed religious authority who has made his regressive views on gays, women, blacks and other groups known in the past.

pretty much.

Another bearded fundamentalist:  Michael Scheuer (former CIA officer and current adjunct faculty member at Georgetown and resident anti-imperialist)

The beard goes a long way, apparently.  Someone here posted a study back in about 2009 about guys having beards being more trustworthy.  Maybe it was right.  Certainly bearded guys speak their minds.  Agree with them or not, you gotta admire their sincerity.

Personally, I'm an occasional shaver.  At the moment I have a couple of days' stubble, but I'll probably shave again tomorrow, or Friday at the latest.  Don't get me wrong.  Bearded guys have big balls--que AC/DC music--but I'm a fan of smaller, privately-attended balls.

Anyway, don't read too much into this.  Phil has a right to his opinion.  (FYI:  I honestly had never even heard of "Duck Dynasty" till I read it here.  Sure, I saw the Duck Dynasty coffee mugs, napkins, baby clothes, backpacks, and mousepads at some point, but that was later.  Only after I'd read about them here.  It always takes at least two to ruin a party.  One to be a jerk, and the other to advertise the jerk's jerkiness.  Food for thought.)

I don't get it.  Are we scraping the bottom of the "things to be offended by" barrel here?

Is the idea here that wanting them to be converted is a violation of their rights and we should go directly to killing them?  Even if they don't support the military involvement of their government, very few people are standing up for the right of ISIS thugs to have a long and prosperous life. The difference is Duckie Duckerson surmises that maybe a come to Jesus moment might work instead of ammunition.

He could literally be mistaken for a Muslim fundamentalist, except he's not Muslim.

What is this? I didn't know Phil Robertson was a clergyman.

Also, more bizzare ISIS apologism from Indy Texas.

If it were practicable then sending a few missionaries over to the 'Islamic State' wouldn't be such a bad idea. Unfortunately, under present circumstances it would probably be bad for their health Tongue.

More? Where was the first ISIS apologism? How is pointing out the similarities of our own mouth-breathing fundamentalists to theirs an apology?

I've already had right-wing Democrats call me an amoral war criminal for suggesting that Assad is the lesser of two evils in Syria compared to ISIS.

I liked the part where you compared a guy whose never cut a member of the press's head off or hung a bunch of gay guys for being gay to people that do do that.  As if saying stupid sh**t was the exact same as murder.

I'll say it again.  You should stick to bullying.  You're actually good at that.

A lot of the people traveling to join ISIS from western Europe are converts from Christianity (nominal or otherwise), actually.

excellent.

Also, now I think I get the "I'm with Phil" pictures I see everywhere.  Is this what they're talking about?  I'd figured Phil was one of those duck guys, but I wasn't quite sure what "with Phil" meant.

It isn't apologism to claim that its bizarre to talk about converting an enemy under the pain of genocide.  Then again maybe ISIS must be annihilated but we have never  annihilated anyone that are not Native Americans yet. If that's not enough, they brought  conversion in as a sole condition of surrender. Maybe it would be cool if we were governed by Octavian or Richard II. But this isn't 1205 AD or 5 AD.

This. And "convert them or kill them" implies that the problem isn't their violence, but that they believe in the wrong god.

Yeah, I tend to take anything that any religious person with the last name Robertson says with a grain of salt. Actually, more like a pound of salt.

I thought they were duck hunters. Then again I've never watched their show.

I distinctly recall you telling us to be skeptical about the killing of Christians because there had been some fake stories about an old church being blown up that ended up not actually existing, and you seemed to act all offended when I said that they would have blown up the church had it actually existed and that there seemed to be few atrocities they were unwilling to commit, as if ISIS members were some long-suffering minority oppressed by right-wing neo-conservative imperialist bigotry.

(Okay, I might have taken a few liberties with that last bit but your reaction was certainly strange)
