Similar to the Sports Profiteering bill on the federal level, except for the regional level. It's time to free the IDS economy some. I'll change the language today.

Would this only apply to this government or would "regional government" extend to city governments as well? I believe they spend more than we do on stadiums.

That's a good point. I think we could amend this to prevent cities from doing so, though admittedly, that is an interference in the power of city governments.

I'd be against that. It'd be banning situations where cities decide via referendum to build stadiums and I don't think anyone would want that.

I think I'd be against that too, I was just noting it as a place to go.

Anyone else wanna talk about this? Duke? Flo?

I'm back from my time away.

I am opposed to this because most stadiums are built AFTER a public referendum. It's not like our officials are unilaterally taking taxpayer money to build these stadiums. Further, sports teams tend to boost local economies and benefit the communities as a whole. Just look at LeBron in Cleveland. He's worth, what, $500 million a year to its economy?

If The People want to use public funds to build a stadium, let them. Usually these places sees a return on their investment, not a loss.

As long as citizens are still allowed to vote for such at the city level, then I think this is a wise move.

The vast majority of evidence is on the side of the economic benefits not outweighing the cost of public subsidies. I'll be in favor.

Seeing no further debate, I bring this bill to a final vote. Legislators have 48 hours to vote aye, nay or to abstain.
