I've taught special education for many years now. If I am lucky I'll have quite a good government pension waiting for me.

Job: Assistant Manager/Cashier at non-profit (since I do some Accounting stuff, does this apply to "career"?)
Student: Freshman at Purdue Calumet, studying Accounting. Also may get an Accounting internship at my workplace.

Still depend on my parents for food and shelter though, so also a leech. Tongue

that would be covered under "I'm a loser, living off of some other person's work...I should probably thank them more".

Good point.  And the independently wealthy are living off the fruits of the labors of their ancestors.  And you could argue that the thugs, dictators, drug lords, pimps, and gangsters are career men, of sorts, so I guess his four options really do cover everyone in the universe except Torie.

Well how about you made your own money, and are now in retirement?  That is rather pedestrian isn't it?  Granted, the "in retirement" part does not really fit for me either. Whatever.

Good luck studying Accounting, I am thinking about getting that as a career field as well. Leaning against it though.

I have an academic career and a political avocation which takes at least as much time as my career. Up until I graduated college I had a series of jobs: fast food worker, door-to-door survey taker, software coder, computer system monitor, convenience store clerk, liquor store manager.

Job is what you do for a living. Career is wider term, as it can either be professional (pretty much another name for a "job"), or not.

I have both really. In my particular role for Uncle Sam, my job could change based on current events but this skill sets builds into a larger career.

A "job" is something you do just because you need to make money.

If you have a "career", it means you do you do because it's interesting to you, and you expect to be doing something in that area for most of your adult life, in addition to the simply making a living.

It's by this definition that I call what I have a career.

I have a career. I work in sales, and have worked my way up in my industry to where I am at. I plan to continue in this field, and make more and more money.

Perché, amico mio?

I'm more interested in getting into a leadership role. Maybe a degree focusing on Management, or Finance.
