John Quincy Adams: Win re-election

Lincoln: Don't see any plays at Ford's Theater for any reason!

Grant: Don't appoint corrupt government officials

Hoover: Don't run for President

FDR: Desegregate the armed forces

Truman: Don't run for re-election in 1952, it'll just be a embarrassing disaster

LBJ: Get troops out of Vietnam ASAP, seriously avoid that area like the bubonic plague and disregard the domino theory non-sense

He didn't.  While one can argue that he should have opposed the Sedition Act, he didn't push for it and used its powers sparingly.  Nor were the contents of the Sedition Act atypical for governments of the time.

Fair enough, although "sparingly" is probably being a bit too kind to Adams on this issue (I believe he used it to try to keep at least one member of Congress from taking his seat).  He certainly should've opposed the Alien and Sedition acts.
