It's probably been 15+ years since I've been in one.

The food is okay to decent, but the place itself is soul sucking.

I eat there all the time, I'm even a "stripes club" member, which means I get free stuff once in a while.

during the .com heyday of 1997-1999 my dad would rack up so many freebees to Friday's.  I think the main site was mypoints.com.  half the time we'd walk out without paying a dime, save gratuity.

these fond memories of the place were probably the subliminal inspiration for making my initial persona here a TGI Fridays manager.

The only times I've ever eaten in one were when I was growing up and my family would be on a car trip somewhere and my dad would refuse to eat in non-chain restaurants and my mom would refuse to eat at any restaurant containing a drive-through. TGI Fridays occupied the overlap in that Venn Diagram, along with Applebee's, Chilis and Bennigan's.

Better than Ruby Tuesday's and Applebees, not as good as Chili's.

So-so. Better than Applebees, although what isn't?

Not quite as good as Chili's, but same tier.

I hate TGI Fridays, Applebees, and Chillis, so option 3 naturally.

I'm going there tonight. It's the only restaurant down here that offers a menu and atmosphere that genuinely reminds me of the States. Whether or not that's a desirable trait, I don't know. But, they deliver with decent hamburgers, steaks, very American appetizers I never see anywhere else here, Tex-Mex fare.. we like it.

TGI Fridays like the other chain bar and grills that have been mentioned have the great advantage of predictability. At home I can go with local spots that I enjoy, but on the road I don't know or generally have time to find an interesting local spot.

For example, a month ago I flew to Orlando, but my flight was a couple hours late due to the weather. It finally arrived about 9 pm and neither I nor my ride had eaten any supper yet. It wasn't hard to google a Fridays just outside the airport where both knew what food and drinks we could find.

All of the Chili's/Applebees/etc chains are unbearably loud. Even if the food were good at these places, which it never is, just the noise would be enough to make a meal unpleasant. I don't understand the appeal of chain restaurants. Everything about them is dreadful.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Endless Appetizers yet.

I voted great.  I can only remember visiting two of them.  One was about 12 years ago in Honolulu, and as I recall I had something with mussels, shrimp, and clams.  I remember being satisfied with the food and the service.  One was about 7 years ago in Ohio.  I think I had some fried chicken and vegetables at that one.  It was also very good.  I haven't been to one recently, but both times I received a freshly-prepared hot meal in a timely fashion, and they both had a decent selection of booze.  What's not to like?

Holy crap! That was the most terrifying thing I've read in a long time. I actually felt like I was trapped in Fridays also. It was like something out of a Stephen King novel.
