This is what truly boggles my mind about the WSJ.

Family making $400K/yr is broke and in debt? We need to sympathize with them and understand the minutiae of their situation because life is hard y'all. How would we ever manage without the personal chef?

Family making $40K/yr is broke and in debt? Shame on them for being so irresponsible. Maybe they should stop whining and get a second/third job. Maybe they should get rid of those frivolous luxuries like cell phones and air conditioning. And we should get rid of some of their tax credits and keep them from being eligible for cheaper health insurance while we're at it. Why should the Job Creators have to subsidize losers like them?

When has the WSJ said that? I don't read it but this sounds like one your typical exaggerated strawmen.

This seems like something Nero would produce.

Also, did you guys even listen to the commentary? The point of the video is to illustrate how NOT to spend your money...

The crazy part was the fact that they didn't mention anything about private school and college tuition. Surely there are more people spending $50K or more on their kids' tuition and expenses than on a lot of those things they listed.

If we're giving $400,000 a year to people who need a web tutorial like this, there should be floggings.

Their editorial page has said as much. Over the years, they've blamed the 2008 recession on middle-class underwater homeowners and bemoaned how many of them pay no income tax.

Reminds me of this:

Of course, in the united states, that money isn't used on capital expense but rather to provide lavish welfare schemes to the chosen unproductives.

Dude they just had their taxes increased to 39% or whatever, give them a break.

I don't see what a bunch of middle class people have to do with anything, opebo.

$40,000/year for Utilities + Maintenance?

Ridiculous.

EDIT:  Having watched the video, I almost threw up a little in the mouth.  To WSJ's credit, the video was basically saying what not to do if you don't want to feel the pinch, but man, those were stupid expenses.

No one needs a $1.2 million house in Chicago.  Move to the suburbs, especially those on the Indiana side, and you could pay a fourth of that.

The Wall Street Journal is truly a disgusting newspaper. And their editorial page is so mindboggingly hackish that it defies belief.

This thread is kind of funny in how it unites "these people complain they have nothing yet complain that those who make average incomes are stealing" and "these city folk are irresponsible I can feed six kids in a big house for a year on what hey make a month!"
