After a domestic protection order was issued against him yesterday. How does the replacement process work?

Well, that will change nothing I guess?
If I recall correctly, he withdrew from the gubernational race.

Heineman/Heidemann was just way too confusing anyway. Heineman couldn't have chosen someone, anyone else for the job? Not to mention he has absolutely terrible taste in lieutenant governors.

Reminds me of when Bob Kerrey was briefly floated as a potential running mate for John Kerry in 2004.

The RGA running ads here appears preemptive, now that Rickets as a scandal on his hands we'll see if the dynamics of the race change.

The Nebraska Secretary of State has agreed to take Heidemann's name off the ballot despite it being past the deadline for such changes.  State Auditor Mike Foley is Heineman's new running mate.

So the rules mean nothing, you can manipulate the ballot as required, same in Kansas.

Had thought this race could be a sleeper, Ricketts being a pretty weak candidate and seen as something of a joke following his 2006 run.

My mom just told me that the Dem candidate Chuck Hassebrock is a 3rd cousin of ours, so if he wins we've got an in at the governors mansion in Lincoln. Go Chuck.

So now being someone's third cousin is an "in"? What is this, Italy?

I'd call this race a tossup with a slight lean to Ricketts.  Hassebrook appears to be well-funded (well, $100,000 from Warren Buffet for starters) and lots of TV ads.  Bruning (AG) would have been a shoe-in, but Ricketts is not a strong candidate.  In my Republican neighborhood, I've seen two yard signs for Hassebrook and none for Ricketts.  I expect the race will be closer than the 1998 Hoppner - Johanns race (54 - 46, Johanns) was.

In Nebraska, the Governor appoints successors to any state elective offices.  The new LG (until January) is former State Senator John Nelson.
