Democrat: 1998-2000
Republican: 2000-2008
Libertarian: 2008-2014
Republican: 2014-

What made you go back to being a Republican? Pragmatism?

I've become more conservative over time, and I have ever less patience for Democrats. I'm very cynical by nature, and living among them for so long has made their flaws really apparent to me. If I were down in the South, I'd probably become a Democrat.

The average age of this forum (as noted by the dates posted here) explains a lot.  That is in no way meant as an insult, as I'm sure there are several youngsters on here smarter than I am; however, younger people tend to be much more idealistic and seem to have more extreme views on policy from my experiences.

2004 (at age 10) - 2008 (at age 13): Democrat
2008 (at age 13) - 2014 (now at 20): Republican

My blue dog mother and liberal uncle were early influences, but I became Republican when I started to form my own identity. My father is technically a registered Democrat, but he's voted Republican in every Presidential election and only votes Democrat at the state or local level if A. he has personal animosity against the Republican or B. if he likes the Democrat more.

I was a rather populist Republican until about 2011 and 2012. I became a strong Libertarian in my last year of high school and first year of college, but I have moderated since then.

(EDIT: Apparently the current year is 2914. Tongue I fixed the typo.)

Provincially:
Progressive Conservative (2012-Present)

Federally:
Liberal (2013-Present)

Note: I joined the LPC in 2013 to vote for Marc Garneau in the leadership race (plus I was 17 at the time, so the membership was free).  I forget why I renewed my membership this year, but I will not be renewing again in 2015.  I've been feeling very independent at the federal level lately.

I've considered myself a Democrat all my life. As far as actual party registration goes, since Texas doesn't have parties and I didn't re-register until I moved to New York, it's like this:

No Affiliation: 2008 - 2012
Democrat: 2012 - Present

Actually registered: as a Republican for voting in the May 6th primaries this year.

How I personally see myself: Independent, but had a solid (not strong, but not lean) Democratic tilt before late-2011, when I began to lean slightly Republican.
Isn't Indiana open primary?

not affiliate, but...

communist 1984-1987
republican-socialist (in a gaullist way) 1987-1992
repubican-gaullist 1993- jan.1994
royalist (since jan. 1994) but
*softly national-liberal conservative 1994-2002
*strongly socialist nationalism 2002-now

always moderate/libertarian in terms of private life, freeminding, etc.

I'm not currently registered with any political party; but if I decide to register with one in the future, it will probably be with the Constitution Party.

I've lived either in states that do not have voter registration by party, or I've been a registered non-partisan/independent voter, except for two brief periods to vote in closed primaries here in D.C. in 2010 and 2014. Each time I changed my voter registration back to No Party the very next day. Something about being a registered party member strikes me as unsavory.

I actually registered to vote in Iowa, but I keep the IL avatar because that's where I was born, that's where my family is, my parents raised me to like IL sports teams, etc.  Anyway, I think I registered to vote in 2010?  I definitely registered as a Republican, and even if a day comes that I don't share a single view with the party, my registration will stay the same (I can't see that day coming anytime soon, but just saying).

Alright I didn't realize I was supposed to do just affiliations (as opposed to registration) throughout the years so that'll be even more fun. Let's see

Republican (2004-2009)
Libertarian (2009-2010)
Off the rails conspiracy theorist Libertarian, NWO comin' for ya kidz crazy (2010-2011)
Ron Paul Libertarian (2011-2012)
"Focused on beating Obama, so Romney it is" Republican (2012)
"Maybe I was wrong about everything I ever believed ever" liberal/progressive (2012-2013)
"I hate Capitalism" progressive...into socialism (2013-mid 2014)
"I just want to vote in the primaries, but I really wanna see full communism enacted" Democrat (mid 2014-present)

wtf

I feel honored that you bumped this 3 year old thread just for my post, so I'll add to this post:

Communist/Socialist (late 2014-late 2015)
SJW socialist/registered Democrat (early 2016-mid 2016)
Democratic Socialist/registered Green (protest) (mid 2016-present)

My parents are Democrats so I identified as such as a kid, but I've considered myself Republican since 2010, when I was old enough to really understand politics and have my own opinion, and I discovered I agreed with the GOP more than the Democrats (so in other words since I've been old enough to have my own political opinion rather than my parents' I've identified as Republican).
