Neither necessarily, as one could still be liberal but vote for one of these candidates on the basis of winning in the GE.

That said, Cuomo is the worse Democrat himself.

Coakley is just a crappy candidate. The other... well, imagine Frank Underwood's cunningness with Ted Cruz's selfishness and you've got Andrew Cuomo.

Soon as I saw Cuomo's name, the decision was easy.

Neither. NY is a closed primary and I can't imagine anyone who isn't a Democrat being willing to vote for Coakley.

How is this even a question? Coakley might be a bad campaigner, but she's a fine Democrat. Cuomo on the other hand is about as much of a Democrat as Zell Miller. Actually, now that I think about it, even Zell Miller is trying to help Democrats (not Republicans) control a Senate chamber...

There's no such thing as a fake Democrat.  If you identify as a Democrat, you're a Democrat.  Period.  I know, I know, God forbid that they don't toe the party line on every issue.

This. There is not and never has been a 'party line' within the Democratic Party because the Democratic Party is a mish-mash of competing, opposed groups with no coherent ideological basis. It is literally a party organized on the basis of 'not being the Republican Party' and nothing else.

I don't know what being a registered Republican has to do with anything.  Most people where I live identify as Republicans.  And you only have to look at my PM scores to know I disagree with my party a lot.  I'm willing to bet there are far more moderate/socially liberal/libertarian minded Republicans on this site than there are moderate Democrats.  Miles is the only one I could even name.

Well tbh the GOP doesn't have a coherent ideological basis either.

Yes, but the dynamics are pretty much reversed on Atlas. Moderate Republicans and True Leftists are close to extinct in real life, but on Atlas they roam free like buffalo.

As already mentioned above, Coakley isn't a bad Democrat. She's just a bad candidate. Cuomo, on the other hand, is a bad Democrat and should have no business calling himself such. I would vote for Coakley easily. I would never vote for Cuomo.
