Even if one does not believe that prayer is head by the Divine, it can still serve as a way to focus upon what one can do to help that person or someone in a similar situation.  However, removing one's avatar for 9/11 (or any other event-related reason) doesn't even accomplish that.

But why does it matter? Is it really that bothersome to you that some people removed their avatars for a day? I didn't hear a peep out of this crowd when  "#solidaritywithopebo" was going on and everyone had D-MO avatars. That certainly wasn't going to help anyone in the long run.

Who is arguing that it's not "respectful enough"? I think the complaint is that it's lame and empty.
