It's a lot like praying for somebody in hardship. A profoundly lazy way to feel good about yourself without actually do anything.

Unless you're from Vermont or New Hampshire, it doesn't adequately depict what happened on 9/11

Even if one does not believe that prayer is head by the Divine, it can still serve as a way to focus upon what one can do to help that person or someone in a similar situation.  However, removing one's avatar for 9/11 (or any other event-related reason) doesn't even accomplish that.

I had to add an avatar to avoid association with those doing this.

Lol it's a way to show respect. I never said it would accomplish anything. It's simply a commemoration in the same way as sharing an image on Facebook or something like that.

But if y'all want to get pissy about something done in good faith on a day that is still incredibly important, go ahead.

Exactly, yes.

And if something like that frustrates you or makes you cringe, you need to rethink what is important in the grand scheme of things.

Why? Apologies for not understanding why this embarrassing impotence is any way worthwhile or helpful to anyone, anywhere, in any way.

But why does it matter? Is it really that bothersome to you that some people removed their avatars for a day? I didn't hear a peep out of this crowd when  "#solidaritywithopebo" was going on and everyone had D-MO avatars. That certainly wasn't going to help anyone in the long run.

I don't think the Opebophiles are dumb enough to equate 9/11 and Opebo. They didn't take themselves so seriously.

Making a separate thread to whine about it is of significantly less help or worth, that is for sure.

A simple commemoration of this date shouldn't be controversial. I don't know why you people have made it so.

Still, it's the sentiment. The avatar removal is a show of respect by the individual. It's not someone else's place to decide if an action is "respectful enough" or not.

Who is arguing that it's not "respectful enough"? I think the complaint is that it's lame and empty.

Also, pretty sure tons of people thought the "opebo solidarity" stuff was ridiculous besides the few obsessed fans he has...
