That's a rather broad definition of "rich".

it's to counter the distinctly american notion that no matter how wealthy you are you're definitely just "middle class"

Anyone who has to sell their labor (or whose parents have to sell their labor) is not rich.

You realise that's pretty much everyone?

No, but old cranky conservatives would probably call me one.

I don't think your social class is necessarily based on your income percentile (at least, not directly-though people with higher incomes than average do tend to have more wealth/assets than average, but not always).

I think a better way to measure this would be something like overall financial security/ability to plan for the future, along with what options you have in regards to your work (or whether you have to work at all!) or choice of job/career/vocation. Not as easy to calculate as household income, but probably more realistic, IMO.

Definitely fit young, rich, and the historic sense of liberal. I am white in the sense of being of European descent, but at the same time I am dark enough to easily pass for (or be mistaken for) someone of Arabic, Hispanic, or Indian descent. Didn't vote in the poll, but pretty sure I do fit.

hold up can we talk for a minute about how you people can't take polls right

55 people have apparently taken this poll but the four yes/no questions have 50 to 52 responses combined and the last one has only 39, how does every single question have several less responses than the total number like are people just picking a couple of random questions to answer or what

There are several people that pick less than 5 options.

What if you live in a place where white people are a visible minority? White is the best chance I have at any of these, but by your definition, I'm not sure that I am. In Memphis, only black people are white.

That's an interesting thought............whites who live in places like inner-city Detroit, Compton, etc. certainly are outnumbered, but I think the OP is considering white as a mark of "privilege", and I'd assume Memphis whites are better off than Memphis blacks (if The Blind Side is any indication, I suppose Tongue).

I don't think I'm rich, but I feel like many people would classify me as one of these.  My friends always joked about me being the uppity, elitist liberal because my dad made good money... despite the fact that I lived in a modest home in NJ with my mom and visited my dad's modest home in PA on the weekends, both in the Philly suburbs.  Probably because I went to college.

Not young, I voted not rich, but then reading the OP, realized I probably am and not liberal (except, as others have said, in the historical sense).

Yes to all. If I were working full time all year, I'd earn more than the median household income for my census tract even without help from my parents. (Not that it would be much.)

All four. I'm still shocked by the fact that my parents make >$100,000 a year combined.

That still might be below the median for Brighton...

Nope, average family income is ~$70,000 according to Wikipedia. Both parents make $60,000, though, which is relatively close to the per capita income.

This is to test the hypothesis that every atlasian meets at least 3/4 adjectives in the phrase "young rich white liberal".

Definitions are largely subjective but consider the guidelines below if uncertain:

young is below 30 years old
rich is coming from a family with a household income that was above average for their geographic area, or making such an income on your own
white is that you are not visibly a minority
liberal is more like the European or academic use of the term than the contemporary American use of it

Guilty as charged.

I don't consider myself rich, but I do meet the requirement, so yes, all 4.

The vast majority, yes (other than the parasitic classes and those completely detached from the means of production).

I am one pasty mofo.

I am also probably those other three things, though it depends how exactly you define them.  For example, I'm 29, which is just barely "young" by this measure (and "young" in the world-at-large), but also very much Atlas Old.  And my financial situation is mountains of dire red ink in every direction, but otoh I came from a comfortable upper-middle family like most folks here and have the sort of social capital and safety net that goes along with that.

Eh.  Voted "yes" for all four.
