Pretty self-explanatory bill here.

Obviously the current situation is untenable.

However, I think we ought to have a provision allowing for a special election if more than half of the term has yet to be served (like if somebody resigns a week or two after taking office.)

I think this bill can be written a bit better

How so?

Dallasfan, I don't really mind either way if your suggestion goes through, though I can see why you're making it. Could you propose an amendment so the Assembly might vote on it?

It's vague. I feel like it might be overly simple where we're missing obvious flaws. Session isn't defined for one. Not having a Speaker is a "vacancy in the Northeast Assembly" does the Governor get to appoint a Speaker? This bill doesn't define the position that is being filled.

Do you have any proposed revisions?

I like the idea behind this but I won't vote for it if it causes more problems than it solves.

@Talleyrand, I'll work on an amendment after seeing any suggestions Nick has, so they don't conflict.

Also motion to extend debate until Tuesday, the sixteenth.

I think it's pretty much clear that vacancies in the Assembly refers to Representatives, and not the Lt. Governorship or the Speakership.

Does this clear up any doubts?

FTR, I'm proposing it as an amendment.

I'll take that - we can always do the special elections thing later.

The voting period is now over. By a vote of 5-0-0, this bill goes to the governor for his signature or veto.
