A hypothetical scenario here. Presume for a moment that in your home state, there developed over the course of the next few decades a movement calling for the independence of your home state. The movement is ideologically diverse, but the mainstream of the movement can be said to share your overall political ideology, and is promising that, if granted independence, it would enact measures that coincide with what you believe to be the right policies and/or positions and that would not be able to be enacted otherwise, at least in the short term.
And let's assume that the movement is strong enough to force the United States government to have to consider the possibility of removing one star from the flag. If that were the case, would you back independence for your state, given the above criteria? Or would you oppose it? If you'd support it, why? If you would oppose it, why?
