King, he said he's literally never used his stove or oven in his apartment. He must be blowing at least $10 a day on dinner, at least, plus $30 or so a day on Saturdays and Sundays.

He has to spend tons of money on food if he never ever cooked a thing for himself. It's amazing how helpless he is at his age. Cooking isn't that hard either.

Yeah, the price of going out constantly instead of cooking for yourself adds up very quickly. Especially if you order things like steak and oreo ice cream sundaes.

It's one thing not to cook. He can't assemble meals. I know people who don't cook but still have the sense to buy frozen Stouffers entree, a bag of frozen peas, and Uncle Ben's instant rice and you know... have a full dinner on a plate.

Bushie, from what he's told us, eats stew out of a can cold because the can isn't microwaveable.

He eats stew out of a can without heating it?? I know when he ate "vegetables" in Utah, he ate them straight from a can and complained about how it tasted. I had no idea he didn't even use a microwave if it didn't come in a microwavable container.

Neither are the megachains he goes to all the time. I'm not sure why people eat at those places, because they tend to be just as expensive as non-chains and their food is far worse. See: Red Lobster,  Applebees, south of the border, etc...

I would recommend cooking classes at the CC or something, but I have a feeling it would just result in our Dear Friend being escorted off the premises

If your grandmother cared about you, she'd respect that you'd need to change your eating habits.

It goes both ways.

No, that's not really fair either. I honestly don't believe people in Oklahoma know what garbage they consume in virtually all of their meals. I'm sure his grandma wanted to make him a tasty meal. I doubt she knows what's healthy and what isn't. It's a way of life that only education (and the will to be educated) can solve.

Now, you're calling my grandmother dumb.  Good job for insulting an 88-year-old lady who knows much more about healthy cooking than you do.  I hope you are proud of yourself.

You are all acting like uneducated, spoiled children by insulting and viciously attacking fellow human beings.  I am coming out of this looking like the adult here.

Jeff, do you think your grandmother thinks you are healthy?  If the answer is no, then why would she feed you stuff that will contribute to your weight gain?  If the answer is yes, then she's contradicting your doctors and probably 99%+ of doctors around the world.

I haven't been in the 270s in several months.  I have a goal of being in the 270's before long, but I haven't quite achieved it, yet.

So you've plateaued at roughly 280 then, which if history tells us anything (I know you'll say it doesn't, but you say that every time), once you plateau, it's only a matter of time before you begin gaining weight again.

Bushie, if your grandma made a bowl of cooked spinach on Sunday, would you have eaten it?

I doubt she would have cooked that, because she knows I don't like it.  But, if set before me, I would choke it down somehow, with probably 3 or 4 glasses of tea.
So do you acknowledge that instead of making healthy meals, she cooks to your liking?  And just because it's healthier than Braum's doesn't mean it's healthy, especially when you eat as large of portions as you do.

Why is it considered a "challenge" to avoid ice cream and fries for a month?  Seriously, nothing could be easier, right?

Honestly, I don't remember the last time I had either.  I had a Klondike bar a few weeks ago, but it's been a while since I had fries.

HD, I always stay in the office for lunch and have either a block of Ramen or a Mac and cheese cup.  It's not a gourmet lunch and I am usually starving by the time I get off of an evening, but they're low on calories and don't cost me anything more than what I pay at the store.  I need to find some variety, but I don't know good and fast alternatives.  I only have 30 minutes for lunch.

They may be low calories, but they're empty calories, and they're packed with sodium.

In one block of chicken flavored ramen noodles you have 70% of what you should eat in a day for sodium and 34% of what you should eat in saturated fat (assuming a 2000 calorie diet).

You need to learn how to cook... bring some pasta from home and heat it up in the microwave.  That'd be way healthier than ramen noodles.

Bushie, is this true?  Of course taking cool veggies straight from a can is nasty!  You need to learn to cook, dude.  Spices and preparation are your friend.

Did you never experiment in the kitchen with things as a child?  There were so many times where I had to make dinner myself as a kid and I've a much better diet for it today.

I just made greek style canned green beans with some tomatoes and onions for dinner. They were great! If only Bushie knew the boys of cooking and being a real man.

My mom taught me her recipe for vinegar and garlic green beans years ago.  They are wonderful, flavorful, and go with everything.

I wanted to cook and was allowed to cook family meals from the time I was 10...

I just don't understand how anyone at his age is sooo helpless and doesn't actually try to do anything about it?

Culture. Like I said, I bet no man cooks in his social circle because that's the woman's job. Men only grill. Notice how Papa Bushie is allowed to grill but no man is allowed in the kitchen? If Bushie asked him mom or grandma to teach him how to cook, they'd probably laugh at him.

Hi, fellas, I acknowledge I need to get in the kitchen more and prepare myself healthier meals.  I don't deny that.  Tomorrow night, I am going to my parents after work and we're going to have spaghetti.  I am going to ask her if I can fix the spaghetti.  I bet she'll say yes.  She has asked me to help her cook on several occasions in the 11 months I lived with them in 2013.  I enjoyed it, actually.  I don't know why that hasn't translated to my own kitchen.  Laziness, I guess.  The convenience factor of the fast food joints is so appealing that I have a hard time seeing past it.  It's so much easier to stop somewhere on the way home and grab a burger than it is to stay in the kitchen for 20-30 minutes preparing a somewhat healthier meal.  That's one thing I acknowledge needs to change.  I know the fast food joints are not good for me.  I feel it by occasional to frequent stomach rumblings that I've experienced lately.  I have no doubt the poor eating habits are 100% to blame for that.  It was easy as heck to get down to 280, but it is tougher than nails seems like to drop further.  I know that's because I am eating as a 275-280 pound man.  I need to change the mind set that I find myself in and try to get out of this rut.  I can do it, but I need to do it, not just talk about it.

I know I'm going to get attacked even for being candid here, but it's something I just had to share after the discussion we've had.

You know, I'm not going to attack you, dear Bushie, because I know what kind of strings are tied to you. You live in a world where you are taught certain things and it becomes part of you, and changing your life is difficult, especially when you're still doing home every weekend to stay with your mom and dad. I don't expect you to change, and I'm not harping on you to change. Keep eating those burgers, that spaghetti, and enjoy your life, because one day, we will all be dead!

Mind you... your version of 'attack' is pretty mild.

Just do it... not everyone gets it right all the time. It takes experimenting and time. Just decide to cook for yourself one night... enjoy it. Don't see it as a chore.

Okay, I'll say it: Spaghetti, laden with quickly digested carbs, and in the quantity you no doubt eat as part of a meal, is a particularly unhealthy choice. Your body (especially your body)will readily convert it into body fat.

Source: Myself, as a morbidly obese youth who ate copious amounts of spaghetti

Yes, we all wanted to say it, but I just didn't have the heart to say it. I am a softy sometimes.

Look, his entire culture is unhealthy, his parents, his friends, his social circle, his church. He isn't going to change. Eating healthy is just elitist to these good people and they won't be bothered with eating green food or things that are not red meat, potatoes, beans, cheese, pasta, rice or anything else.

SHUT UP no way that'll happen you silly boy!

I wonder what Bushie's family has on their pasta? Marinara sauce? Meat sauce? Alfredo? Primavera? A la vodka? Bolognese? Or are they the dreaded types that like chili over pasta?
