Let us know how good the Dairy Queen lunch is.

It's so sad, because in the Southwest you will undoubtedly drive by a bunch of cool little Mexican places that are so out of the way that you will only get a couple chances to ever eat there.  No, no, no the Clan Bushie will drive far and wide to find a McDonald's or something and get some real food!

What do you think the dynamic is like when Bushie, Mom, and Dad stop in at a restaurant to eat?  Does Mama Bushie scold Our Dear Friend as she would when he was a little tike to settle down?

See the link 2 posts back.

The Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico are basically arid emptiness with the occasional ornery white person. So alas, DQ and McDonalds are probably all the Bushies are going to come across.

We just entered Amarillo.  It smells like Amarillo, too, with all the nearby hog farms...

Out of Amarillo and about 15 miles from lunch.  I'll take over the driving duties till we get to Santa Rosa, NM.

Just passed Santa Rosa.  I've handed the wheel back over to Dad for the duration of the trip.  Should be at the hotel by 1550 MT.

Just about 70 minutes away.  I imagine we'll have dinner at the Chili's that's close to the hotel.

Branch out a bit! You can eat at Chili's anywhere. I know, I know ... Blue Corn Cafe tomorrow. I promise if you just look at Yelp that you can find an inexpensive local place tonight, too. If you won't eat healthier, you might as well explore and broaden your pallet a bit!

No, she encourages me not to go 18-24 hours without eating.  She wants to keep my energy level up and she knows it's not healthy to lose weight by starving yourself.
I'm an outsider to this unhappy freak show of a thread, but I must agree with Mama. You shouldn't go 18-24 hours without eating. No-one should. Your body reacts badly. You certainly should make sure to eat three square meals a day.

But a square meal does not consist of double cheese burger and fries three times over.

Today I worked a short day, so I could slob about, and had a breakfast of a 4 oz piece of baked salmon (threw it in the oven for 30 minutes) and 12 oz of boiled brussel sprouts** (threw them in a pan of boiling water for 8 minutes; salmon and sprouts go well together, as does salmon and spinach; throw a few sliced-up mushrooms in the pan with the sprouts or spinach for variety). At lunch I went to the work canteen (more like a deli) and had ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato with a tiny scrape of butter on wholemeal bread (they do this just delicious at my work canteen, I could eat it forever). At dinner I had a tin of vegetarian bolognese, bought off a supermarket shelf and boiled up in a saucepan for four minutes, with a juicy whole grapefruit for dessert.

None of it bought in a restaurant for a 200% mark up. None of it requiring any real effort. And I imagine lovely acidic grapefruit in Oklahoma are juicier than in England, as we ship them over.

It all came to about £6 (approx $10) and I know it's not the healthiest diet in the world but it's better than what I read in this thread. Try it for a day! Especially (one slice of) ham, (one slice of) cheese, (lashings of) lettuce, (lashings of) tomato on brown bread, it's the loveliest tastiest thing in the world.

** It appears Thomas Jefferson introduced sprouts to the US and grew them at Monticello. Furthermore, sprouts are a traditional accompaniment to the turkey on Christmas Day in the UK. Therefore it's both unpatriotic and un-Christmassy for Bushie not to eat lots of sprouts. The fibre content is great.

I'm guessing the Chili's you refer to is the one on Louisiana and Menaul since there's a lot of hotels around there.

Do not go there. Instead, go to Garduno's at Winrock Mall (on Louisiana and I-40), as seen on the hit television show Breaking Bad. It'll be visible on your right heading toward your hotel from the highway.

Change of plans.  We're going to have more Mexican tonight.  We can have Chili's any night in Oklahoma.  Even better, we're going to WALK over there!

He can always just explain to the pizza customers that due to the inclement weather, he'll need to make a pit stop at a motel for the night first.  They'll get their pizzas in due course.

I'm just imagining Our Dear Friend doing exactly that, eating the pizzas as he lies in bed watching television at the motel, knowing that it's better that they not go cold and that he can buy more pizza from another place to take to the customer the next morning, thinking that he can charge it (and the motel stay) to his pizza store, only to find that nobody is cooking and selling pizza early enough the next day, and when he makes a trip to the customer's house to explain what has happened, the hapless, disturbed resident explaining that it's 11 AM and they don't want the pizza anymore, and Jeff driving back to the pizza store and being asked to return his hat.  But it would be okay, because there are other pizza stores that are also hiring delivery drivers.

We decided on a different Mexican restaurant so we drove.  We went to Papa Felipe's about 3-4 miles from the hotel.  It's the best Mexican food I've had in a long time.  I had the Navajo Taco (Indian taco).

The plan for tomorrow is eat breakfast, go to the train store, walk around Old Town, maybe go up Sandia Peak and have supper at BCC.  We plan on heading back to Oklahoma City at 6:00 am MT Sunday so Dad can rest before going back to work Monday.

How much did you pester Mom about the walking until we decided to drive?

I so don't get the leave at 6 AM so Dad can be rested thing. The Sandia Tramway is pretty neat though. Here's a pic I took of ABQ from the top in 2006.
