I LOVE climatology
The Köppen climate classification system is one of the most used methods for classifying your climate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classificationThe main grouping is this:
Group A: Tropical/megathermal climates
Group B: Dry (arid and semiarid) climates
Group C: Temperate/mesothermal climates
Group D: Continental/microthermal climates
Group E: Polar and alpine climates
Within these groups, there are subgroups:
Class A
Tropical rainforest (Af)
Tropical monsoon (Am)
Tropical savanna (Aw, As)
Class B
Desert (BWh, BWk)
Semi-arid (BSh, BSk)
Class C
Humid subtropical (Cfa, Cwa)
Oceanic (Cfb, Cwb, Cfc, Cwc)
Mediterranean (Csa, Csb)
Class D
Humid continental (Dfa, Dwa, Dfb, Dwb, Dsa, Dsb)
Subarctic (Dfc, Dwc, Dfd, Dwd, Dsc, Dsd)
Class E
Polar (ET, EF)
Alpine (ET/H)
Now within these subgroups are additional ones such as (Dfc). But lets keep it simple and just see the 12 main subgroups. I'd like to see the climate classification of where you live. Usually if you enter in your town or city in Wikipedia, it should be listed under climate.
For example, I live in Los Angeles and my climate type is Csa, which means my climate type is Mediterranean.
