Assuming that Clinton and Bush receive the nominations of their respective parties, which realistic (!) VP nominee match-ups would the most interesting/boring/one-sided/sophisticated etc. in the VP debate?

My suggestions:

Most interesting: Sanders / Cruz
Most boring: O'Malley / Pawlenty
Most balanced: Manchin / Huckabee
One-sided: Castro / Rice - or - Warren / Perry
Sophisticated: Warren / Rice
Heaviest: Schweitzer / Christie

I would love a Kaine-Portman or an O'Malley-Pawlenty debate. Yes, it would be boring, but boring may be better for the country this time. Go Boring! Go Zzzz! I would also love a Sanders/Cruz VP debate. Bring it on!

I'm reasonably sure Ted Cruz, Joe Manchin, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Rick Perry and Bernie Sanders won't be anyone's veep choices. Hillary Clinton won't pick Elizabeth Warren, and Jeb Bush won't pick Condoleeza Rice.

A largely unknown running mate would create a lot of interest, so there may be a lot of eyeballs to any debate with possible Kansas Governor Paul Davis, or Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx. Republicans are less likely to pick up gubernatorial seats (at least with anyone who fit a ticket with Jeb) so they're less likely to include unknowns. Even a second-year Senator will be able to make numerous appearances in national media, so it won't have the impact of Palin or Ferraro's selection. When Democrats pick the first female nominee to follow the first African American President, it'll take a lot for a Veep to get immediate attention. Former Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuņo probably comes closest for Republicans.

In many cases I have no idea how a particular candidate would do in a debate. I haven't seen enough of Tim Kaine or Sherrod Brown or Kelly Ayotte in that particular role.

These are just hunches.
Most Interesting: Cory Booker VS Chris Christie
Most Boring: John Hickenlooper VS Terry Lynn Land
Most Balanced/ Sophisticated: Michael Bennet VS Rob Portman
One-Sided Republican Win: Julian Castro VS Susanna Martinez
One-Sided Democratic Win: Cory Booker VS Joni Ernst

Michael Bennet as most sophisticated? That's hilarious. Michael Bennet is literally a Droid. He does nothing but spew Dem talking points. I'd say Warner would be a good pick for most sophisticated though.

Castro seems to me like a guy who isn't going to be chosen because of high expectations for a debate.

He hasn't had much Republican opposition, or any practice for General Elections. His elections in San Antonio were against other Democrats.

And as HUD Secretary, he's unlikely to have much practice fighting Republicans.

Susanna Martinez is a former prosecutor who won a competitive election. The optics also favor a middle-aged woman versus a younger guy.

You have absolutely no idea about Julian Castro's debating chops.  It's just wild speculation.  If you're just looking at their resumes, Castro is certainly more impressive intellectually.

I explicitly said these are just hunches.

Still looking at potential Hillary veeps, Castro seems to be the most vulnerable in a debate.

Members of Congress argue against talented debaters all the time. Former prosecutors also had practice at it. Those elected to statewide office had to compete with others strong enough to get major party nominations.

Looking at potential Hillary veeps there aren't many who were not members of Congress, not prosecutors and did not seek a competitive statewide office. The list, as far as I can see it, is limited to Castro, Anthony Foxx and Gavin Newsom.

Castro has had at least one debate, with Texas State Senator (currently Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor) Dan Patrick on immigration, so that could change my opinion of his skills here.

Actually I'm pretty sure Terry McAuliffe would be more probable than the other Virginia big-names...so with that said

And as for O'Malley, the man gave a good trashing to Nikki Haley's gubernatorial record, this proves he could throw a good zinger with the correct provocation, so I'm throwing him out

And I don't even want to think about Cruz,he disgusts me too much.

So with that said, my fifty-cents...using currently positioned people (I may update if say Jason Carter beats Nathan Deal, Paul Davis comes in, Bruce Rauner comes in...etc)

Most interesting: Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) vs Sen. Tim Scott (SC)

Most boring: Gov. John Kitzhaber (OR) vs Gov. John Kasich

Most balanced: Gov. Terry McAuliffe (VA) vs Sen. Susan Collins (ME)

Most sophisticated: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA) vs John Huntsman (UT)

Most One-sided GOP: Mayor Rahm Emanuel (IL) vs Sen. Rand Paul (KY)

Most One-sided Dem: Al Franken (MN) vs "Fmr" Gov. Tom Corbett (PA)
