JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Mississippi Supreme Court has entered an order, setting a briefing schedule  in the appeal of Chris McDaniel v. Thad Cochran. The Supreme Court scheduled oral arguments for  10 a.m. Oct. 2.

McDaniel lost to Senator Thad Cochran in a June 24 runoff election by more than 7,000 votes, but cited election irregularities when he filed his legal challenge.

Hopefully the judge isn't pro-McDaniel...

This feels like it's deliberately slow. Usually, time-sensitive election disputes get rocketed to the top of a court's docket, no? I wouldn't be surprised if the MS Supreme Court is aligned with the pro-Cochran establishment to some extent, and is intentionally taking their sweet time on this case (regardless of the claim's veracity).

Yeah, Oct. 2?  That's got to be close to when the ballots are being printed.

Everyone knows McDaniel is just tilting at windmills anyway.

Meh. Knowing how corrupt the MS GOP establishment is, I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe Nosef get his nose where it doesn't belong again and attempt to influence the MS Supreme Court's decision to rule similar to McGehee. If that wasn't enough, Chief Justice Waller appointed McGehee in the decision where he ruled immediately in favor of Cochran b/c of "mah deadline requirement" and Justices Randolph, Lamar and King are all Barbour-appointees, so yeah.

Childers is still doomed either way though. By the time the MS SC finally rules, even if it's in McDaniel's favor, there won't be enough time to reprint the ballots and he'll likely just lose to Cochran on election day.

It's nothing more than a sideshow. If he were serious about winning that Senate seat, he'd announce a write-in or independent candidacy.

Not that this is going to happen, but it sure would get intense here if the Court ordered a re-do primary in late October, the week before the general election. "Printing" ballots shouldn't really be an issue in 2014, especially when the elections here are entirely done by machine, except for absentee and affidavit ballots.

He can't do either. That's why his campaign manager/rumored bedmate has begrudgingly endorsed Childers. I'm very curious to see if McDaniel will do the same when he loses at the Supreme Court -- the only thing he can do to prevent Cochran from winning is try to push Childers over teh top.
