Ranking them is too hard, so I'll group them:
States I'd live in(and only near a big city, no BFE sh**t for me):
AK,WA,OR,CA,ID,MT,WY,CO,SD,NE,KS,MO,IA,MN,WI,IL,IN,MI,OH,PA,NY,VT,NH,ME,VA
States I'd live in, but I wouldn't like it:
TX,UT,GA,WV,OK,HI
States I'd only live if I was getting some serious green:
whatevers left, the hot places

Top Tier:

1) DC (Washington)
2) Maryland (Bethesda)
3) Virginia (Alexandria)
4) Illinois (Chicago)
5) Massachuetts (Boston)

High Quality:

6) Vermont (Monteplier)
7) Maine (Portland)
8 ) New Hampshire (Manchester)
9) Minnesota (Minneapolis)
10) California (San Francisco)

Sounds good:

11) Wisconsin (Madison)
12) New York (New York)
13)  Connecticut (New Haven)
14) Deleware (Wilmington)
15) Washington (Seattle)
16) North Carolina (Charlotte)
17) Oregon (Portland)
18) Rhode Island (Providence)
19) Colorado (Boulder)

Not so good:

20) New Jersey (New Brunswick)
21) South Carolina (Charleston)
22) Montana (Billings)
23) Wyoming (Jackson)
24) Michigan (Ann Arbor)
25) Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
26) Texas (Austin)
27) Georgia (Atlanta)
28) Missouri (St. Louis)
29) Utah (Salt Lake City)

Not great:

30) Tennessee (Nashville)
31) Iowa (Des Moines)
32) Arizona (Phoenix)
33) Ohio (Columbus)
34) Indiana (Indianapolis)
35) Louisiana (New Orleans)
36) Idaho (Boise)
37) Florida (Tampa)
38) Hawai'i (Maui)
39) Nevada (Las Vegas)

Bad:

40) Nebraska (Omaha)
41) Kansas (Lawrence)
42) Kentucky (Lexington)
43) Alaska (Fairbanks)
44) Oklahoma (Oklahoma City)
45) Alabama (Birmingham)
46) New Mexico (Albuquerque)
47) Arkansas (Little Rock)
48) Mississippi (Jackson)
49) South Dakota (Sioux Falls)
50) North Dakota (Fargo)
51) West Virginia (Charleston)

Tier map:

Basically I love the DC metro, Midwestern urban centers, and New England. The West Coast is decent and the Mid-Atlantic is blah. The Rust Belt and the Rockies are bad and the Plains and Deep South are really bad, with exceptions along the coast. But not Florida; Florida sucks.

These are the only states I could live in.

1: Florida (Tallahassee)
2: DC (Washington)
3: Virginia (Manassas)
4: West Virginia (Sutton)
5: Pennsylvania (Ebensburg)
6: South Carolina (Charleston)
7: New Hampshire (Portsmouth)
8: Mississippi (Oxford)
9: Alabama (Mobile)
10: Louisiana (Baton Rouge)
11: North Carolina (Wilmington)
12: Texas (Tyler)
13: Iowa (Davenport area)

New York would be ranked last, followed by Massachusetts, New Jersey, Illinois, and the western states.

Okay, I attempted to divide all of the sates (exuding DC, because it's technically not a state and, more importantly, it messes up my pattern Tongue) into tiers based on how much I would want to live in them. Note that this just off the top of my head and I was unsure about where exactly to place a few of the sates, so take this map with a grain of salt. in any case, I think the overall pattern is a pretty accurate representation of my preferences.
