I enjoy and I do pretty good at both, but spades is the better and more enjoyable game.  Especially if you know how your partner plays.

Spades is a really great game, especially if you consider how simple it is. It is clearly superior to most variations of hearts, incl. the American standard game.

If you like spades, why not go all the way and graduate to bridge?

I prefer "Magic, the Gathering" personally.

Huh.  I would not have pegged you for a Magic player.

Nothing beats Watten, maybe Schnapsen comes near... I'd never play any other card games than those two.
I have no idea what spades is, and I have played Hearts the last time when I was 5 on my dad's computer.

I play bridge (and about 20 other games), but it has certain flaws such as a cumbersome and illogical scoring schedule, the bidding taking precedence over the actual play of the cards and no nullos/misere game meaning too many hands are unplayable, so I will never be a bridge-only cardplayer. Furthermore most bridge players take themselves waay too seriously for my taste.

I guess there are a few things where people don't joke about their local cultures - card games being one of those Tongue

Played it twice. A friend of mine in college and a bunch of our mutual friends apparently play it (it's rather strange that these are guys who are quite adept, socially, but who nevertheless harbor a semi-closeted affinity for sh#t like this), and taught me somewhat how to play. Rather interesting.

MtG was an obsession of mine in middle school.  I've long since quit the cardboard crack, but it is a really engrossing game if you don't let it bankrupt you.

I suppose this is the point at which I admit that my card game of choice these days is Dominion.  I wonder how well-known it is in the wider world.
