Polls end at 5PM EDT, a perfect excuse to turn it into a drinking game.  A shot of Highland single malt for every no precinct; a shot of Lowland for every yes precinct.  Something like that.  And if you live in California, take off at 2PM and get an early start on your buzz.  Any takers?

A shot per precinct?  Forget you likely dying half an hour into the results returning, you'd spend tens of thousands of dollars.

A shot of gin for no precints would be more logical. Single malt only for yes.

Reasonable enough, fair lass.  It's settled then.  I think I already have some gin (although it's the Amsterdam variety, not the London.)  I'll pick up a fifth of Glenmorangie on the way home.

From what I've got across the internet, this seems to be fairly accurate (apart from the 'yes rating' in some places):

Still sorting out the rules, and the more I think about it, two types of Scotch Whisky is a better idea than mixing gin and Scotch.  Smiley

Also, according to Tetro's chart, the big places won't roll out till it is nearly midnight here.  A 5 till midnight game will require some subtlety.  Not like the SOTU drinking games where we take a shot every time a president mentions the word "freedom" or "moral" or some such.

I'll have a special drink when the angus council declares.  Aye or nae, let's drink on it either way.

This is exciting. It must be strange for our Scottish members that half the forum is more emotionally invested in the outcome than they are, though.

That's because most of us come from places that have no logical reason for secession what so ever Tongue. It is very exciting from an international perspective, and most Americans like Scotland, be it because of Braveheart or their own ancestry.

Weird how we all still seem to hate Quebec though.

Yes 52-48 in Edinburgh. Source: Italian Sky TG 24

That would be good for the unionists, right?

The rural areas are more conservative and older, I assume, which are probably more likely "no" votes. If "yes" only squeaks by in the city, it doesn't look good for secession.

I can't find any verficiation for that figure whatsoever (and Cris has since deleted the post) but no, that's a massive oversimplification.

How can Scotland be taken seriously as a modern European country if it takes seven hours to report results? I mean, really.

Perhaps you should drop your preconceived notions about what "a modern European country" entails. Election results in Ireland always tale until the next day to be declared. England similarly often sees long delays before results are given. Not everywhere is exactly like the United States, backtored.

Uhh, because Scotland doesn't want to be an international laughing stock like Florida in 2000 ?

And because the ballots are not counted locally, but first are sealed and transported to the local authority offices where they'll be counted (carefully, which means the vote tally and especially the absentee ballots will need to be protocollized and everything).

Better the counting takes longer and is accurate, rather than doing it US-style where there are no clear counting guidelines as to when a ballot is valid/not, ballots added weeks and months after an election and recounts which are disputed ...

Yeah, an American criticizing a country for its election administration is quite rich.

"Leaks" and rumoured results before the polls close (and indeed for some time afterwards) are highly unlikely to be genuine.

Lol @ the responses. Unless it's at the expense of the groups they despise those on the left tend to have a major problem with humor Wink
