The way North and South Lanarkshire voted reminds me of how North and South Carolina voted for President in 2008 when the North went narrowly for Obama and the South marginally for McCain.

SC was McCain +9....In fact it was the 2nd state to be universally called for him, trailing only KY.

So where does the uk go from here? Federalism and English votes for English laws and assuming the Tories deprive labour a majority in England at some point labour wins the whole uk, what then?

And how soon before Scotland votes again?

And how soon before Scotland votes again?

According to this site, this vote is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  There likely won't be another such referendum on independence for a long time to come if they vote tonight to remain with the United Kingdom.

Edinburgh and Fife still out, so this should narrow some more.

so which Ayrshire is your favorite everyone? I think the best is East Ayrshire because of the trippy background image plus the official vote announcer being awesome and giving the audience a penalty for excessive celebration

Well, a depressing night, but not without signs of hope. Scotland's day will come.
