Well yeah...
There have nothing I have seen that indicates that the Syrian rebels are liberal or enjoy wider public support in Syria.
While some of them can be called moderate, they're only that because first Nusra and later ISIS was so extremist that it made people who didn't have a problem terrorising non-Sunnis seem moderate. Ironic the rise of ISIS have resulted in even Nusra being seen as moderates.
Of course not all rebels are this bad, some especially the once who hold Aleppo was just opportunistic rural Sunnis, who saw the revolution as a chance to get some plunder, it's interesting to read the reports from Aleppo, where the rebels blame the people of Aleppo for not joining the revolution, while they on the other side describes the rebels as thieves and raiders.
Of course to be fair, there may be some secular supporters for liberal democracy among the rebels, but there are nothing which indicate that they are more common than Chinese natural blondes (which in all fairness do exist).
