Paul would be in an odd position. He needs a Veep who can reassure the establishment and centrists, but doesn't have his primary supporters screaming "Sell out!" He should avoid anyone who disagrees with him on issues where he has the support of the majority of the public (so no Hawks).

A fiscally conservative but sufficiently popular Governor makes sense. It adds a different kind of experience to the ticket, and can represent a model of Republican governance. If Scott Walker gets reelected with a large enough majority, he'd be a potential pick. John Kasich could be an elder statesman type choice. Tim Pawlenty got an A from the Cato Institute, and has blue collar appeal.

I'd vet Luis Fortuņo, former Governor of Puerto Rico. He adds diversity to the ticket, has political talent, and would let Rand Paul add an optimstic goal, turning Puerto Rico into the 51st state.

If Cory Gardner wins that Senate race, he will be a top contender for VP, and I think he would be the best choice for Paul.

There are pros and cons to having a ticket with two people elected to Congress in 2010. It could make the ticket look new, but it could also make the ticket look inexperienced and lacking in diversity.
