I was stunned as well.
Why? The thing about Bernie Sanders is that he's not a socialist in the truest sense of the word. He's basically a reformist social-democrat. For all his faults (from my perspective), its clear that Bernardo does not want to see society as it is presently constituted utterly destroyed, with capitalism overturned and organised religion crushed. Now, some of the true leftists (the genuine Communists amongst them) want
exactly that to happen. Social democracy is a threat to their desire for revolution, given that it is highly attractive to many working class people, many of whom would far rather vote for social-democracy than take up arms against the 'parasites'.
