I see nothing inherently bad about not being able to buy the things you trade your labor to produce. Who cares if a man working for a tampon manufacturing company can't afford tampons? Well, that's not a great example, since tampons are (presumably) pretty cheap, but my point is that just because you work for a firm that produces something doesn't mean you need to buy that thing.

Also, based on personal experience, its supporters are generally pretty terrible.

Systems should be made for mankind, but mankind doesn't have egalitarian aspirations. It's not a coincidence that the worst forms of I'm-better-than-you ostentatious consumerism exist in two countries known for imposing economic suffering on their people (China & Russia). I can scarcely imagine what will happen in North Korea and Cuba, if they liberalize commerce.

Kind of terrible, and the various eponymous Canadian parties which ostensibly supported it even more so.

Actually, you probably would've preferred early Social Credit to its competitors. The movement was initially perceived as quite left wing. There's a good book about the history of the party.

Even putting aside the sort of unsavory right-populist parties that social credit inspired, the whole idea seems to be at best a sort of bizzaro-world converse of goldbuggery, complete with all the crankery that implies.
