For me its mainly option 1, though most of my posts are actually in individual politics, so option 2 too.

It's mostly a gay dating site. Of the choices listed, Update is the most important.

I would say a combination of 1 and 3. It is an Atlas after all, which implies the proliferation of maps. It is also a forum, so I imagine discussion of those maps for results and demographics is also part of its purpose. Option 2 is the one that clearly isn't its main purpose. Also it's main purpose is decidedly not the Update Thread.

Atlasia, of course!  I honestly cannot believe this isn't one of the poll options and no one has mentioned it.

Of the options listed, Update.  Cheesy

I feel that, in practice, it's become option 2, but Dave probably wanted it to be option 1.

The answer depends on if you subscribe to original intent or not.

Maps. I can get political debate anywhere, but maps of obscure elections is what keeps me coming back.

Option 3
Option 1
Option 2

In that order, the update is like a parasitic growth that needs to be cut away, but never will be Sad  Atlasia exists largely to boost the egos of certain unnamed individuals and (imo) has a way of bringing out the worst in people, but it's self-contained enough that it isn't really a problem the way the update is.  Honestly, the update would be tolerable if it were all contained in one thread.  This could be done by restraint on the part of Jeff's groupies, the forum community mods simply merging all update-related threads into one super-thread, or even creating a sub-board under the forum community board for the update.  While I don't approve of it, my issue with it is more that I can't simply put it on ignore.  There are posters like Snowstalker or Krazen who really bother me, but I can just hit ignore and never give them another thought.  However, the update-related threads are always clogging the arteries of the FC board, so to speak.
