Time for one of these, in light of the referendum, resignation and everything.

In view of his loss, he certainly does not understand dialectical materialism.

FF. I supported the Yes campaign but No winning is hardly the end of the world. I think he made the right decision to resign.

HP.

However, if the SNP were to drop the Independence side of their party, then I'd support them.

He's a hypocrite. makes out to be a left winger and anti-establishment when in fact he's just as in with the Murdoch empire as all the others.

The only redistributive policy that came out in the whole independence campaign was that he wanted to drop the corporate tax rate.

A very good politician who has managed to transform the SNP from essentially a joke to Scotland's natural governing party.

That said, I'm not in favour of his behaviour during the referendum or debates. I still don't know why lefty foreigners are pigeonholing him and Scotland as some kind of poor, oppressed peoples standing against the mighty English empire.

The SNP polled 30% of the vote in Scotland in October 1974. The pre-Salmond SNP was certainly flakier in all senses, but wasn't a joke.

Now he's arguing that Scotland should be able to declare independence without a referendum. In his post-referendum statements he has looked like a very sore loser.

Yeah, that sounds dumb - like he wants Nicola Sturgeon to become the next Ian Smith Wink. But his underlying point of Scotland becoming de facto independent through progressive devolution is a good one, though. We Danes are seeing that with Greenland and the Faroes. With increased autonomy they are slowly, but inevitably, developing into separate countries. I think that's the route Scotland will take as well, and obviously with far greater consequences.

All fluff and no substance, he pulls at people's heartstrings in order to get them to vote against their own good.
