I don't like the idea of a blanket time line, but I'd be willing to consider it as friendly if Senator TNF is willing to add  - "Subject to on the ground conditions" at the end.

I'm not willing to do that because we seem to have enough votes to pass this without it.

If Senator TNF wishes to approach it with that view, then I'll consider it unfriendly and let the Senate make the determination. I don't see it as a big deal to add this into it, but let's put it to a vote and I'll respect that call.

Nay because I think Polnut is right about the subject to conditions on the ground and yes I realize this is going to all be in red text. Tongue

"Subject to on the ground conditions" seems like a great way to undo this whole thing should Lumine win the Presidency in October.

It would still come down to the Senate making this decision. I think unconditional withdrawals, without ANY considerations for the situation on the ground are irresponsible. Lumine has nothing to do with this.

I object to the proposed amendment (if it's being offered, there's no indication to suggest it is). It's a disingenuous attempt to continue our idiotic presence in Saudi Arabia should "on the ground conditions" (whatever that means) not be favorable to Atlasia (how is it any of our business what is going on in Saudi Arabia?)

It is absolutely not disingenuous. This reflects the reality that we as a nation face.

Assuming all is well on the ground, the process of withdrawal will commence in just over half a year. This isn't your dramatic and immediate option, it's one based in reality and recognising that we cannot just do what we want without concern for the circumstances.

This does deliver a withdrawal from Saudi, but one done responsibly and sensibly.

I am putting this up as an amendment and Senator TNF is free to vote against it.

What hypothetical conditions do you envision that would make it undesirable for us to remove our forces from Saudi Arabia?

I suspect that Senator TNF might be less suspicious of this amendment if the latest withdrawal date was set prior to the outcome of the next Presidential election.

The fact that he's 'suspicious' is concerning to me. Does he really think this is some kind of put up job?

And it is sort of difficult to evacuate a country in about a week.

Why should we be in Saudi Arabia at all? Is there any real justification for this, and is there any real justification for adjusting our presence based on 'conditions on the ground', or not? I will vote against any amendment that weakens withdrawal from that country, just as I will not vote for any amendment that negates us leaving, or even leaves open the option of negating it. We either leave or we don't.

If the Saudi people rise up and kill the King or whatever, we shouldn't not leave because of 'conditions on the ground.' We should leave. Period.

Senator, please, that paranoia is better suited to our failed former President. We can't withdraw in a week, and it's utterly ridiculous to suggest Senator Polnut's motives to have anything to do with the election.

Since there's an objection to the amendment, we will now vote on it. Senators, please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain.
