The only people I know who did that were a little, er, weird... So because of that, I probably wouldn't do it. Tongue

Both of my children have names that are the same as English monarchs, and are in the current royal family. Then again, they both have relatively common names that also appear in our own ancestry.

Maybe a pet, but probably not a child.

Not intentionally, although I do suspect regal names will be used.

My mum and siblings got a bit of a whack of this: Christopher, Mary-Elizabeth, and Josephine... and not even a Catholic family.

My great-grandpa (b. 1893) had the middle name "Cleveland", so I guess it's been done before in my family.  I'm not sure I have any particular interest in doing so for a contemporary political figure, but maybe someone historical.  I think "Eleanor" is a pretty name for a girl, and Eleanor Roosevelt was awesome.

Well, Cristiano Ronaldo is actually named after him.

I would consider Danish royal names like Christian and Valdemar, not otherwise.

The name Napoleon is oddly popuar on the Faroe Islands, and since they like to name children after older relatives they still have little boys with names like Napoleon Kallfinn Hansen, truly bizarre.

I had a friend whose grandfather was a well known Danish populist politician in the 50s named Viggo Starcke and she chose to call her son that to the despair of her father, who had been bullied all his childhood for being the son of said Viggo S.
Also one of my school mates was called Herluf Trolle after a 16th centurt Admiral, but it does sound weird if kids are being given names like Horatio Nelson, Jane Austen or William Pitt

Possibly, although I assume my SO will have the final say on it, so probably not, unless she liked the name and didn't really care about the political origins of it.

Not a political figure, but a historical figure certainly. I wouldn't name a child anything that isn't the name of a saint (maybe with a few exceptions such as Grace, Hope, etc.).

The only reason I'd possibly consider avoiding naming my child Ignatius Donnelly K[REDACTED] is because of the initials, and I doubt those would present much trouble.

This, although I'd throw in a few prominent Protestants like Luther and Calvin. My fiance is fond of OT prophet names. Elijah and Ezra are on our shortlist. I have a distant relation whose name is John Wycliffe ______, so maybe I could do that.

How about John Knox?
