Holy excessive hyperbole Batman!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0Zf5jq0wOTo

And I will tell you that one of the reasons—I'm going to get partisan here—but one of the reasons I'm running is to change that. To change that. There's an easy way to do it. I'll let you figure it out. But, at any rate, we have to change course, because our country is headed for national socialism. That's not right. Changing the culture, changing what we're all about.

This may actually help him, considering Kansas is still Kansas, AFAIK.

He has to learn that going farther to the right is not going to gain him votes.

Well, saying that he has a fetish with women's feet can also achieve that.

Has he forgotten what "National Socialism" really means?

Maybe he ought to ask why Henry Kissinger is in the United States.

Ah yes, the ol' "shore up the base" strategy, eh? I know how this will play out...

Phase 1: Pat Roberts waves the bloody shirt of socialism in some form.

Phase 2: Pat Roberts warns that Obamacare might kill your grandmother.

Phase 3: Pat Roberts warns that America won't be free until every man, woman and child can bring a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with them to dinner at TGI Friday's.

Phase 4: Pat Roberts suggests making all Hispanics wear large, brightly-colored sombreros with their citizenship status printed on the brim.

Phase 5: Pat Roberts punches a Muslim child in the face while singing an a cappella version of Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" in an ad toting his national security credentials.

This will not play well with the moderate Republicans he needs to win.

He has no clue what he's saying, he put those two words together, mainly just to use the word socialism and it came out entirely wrong. Not that Republicans candidates aren't capable of making claims of Nazism, but in this case, Roberts just shows how ignorant of ideology some people are. He doesn't even come off like a Senator there, just some bumbling old man whining at a town hall meeting about nothing at all.

If Orman really pulls this out, especially if, as looks increasingly likely, Republicans take the Senate regardless, Roberts will have engineered one of the most impressive pluck-defeat-from-the-jaws-of-victory of 21st century American politics so far.

Yeah, the trajectory of this race has been pretty amazing. Let me do a timeline from the eyes of Pat Roberts.

2009-2013: "I'm a lock for re-election even if I get caught with both a live boy and a dead girl."
Early 2014: "Oh, I got a primary challenger. Whatever, he's pretty much a joke. I'm still a lock in both the primary and of course the general."
June-July 2014: "Whoa, this joke is getting momentum. Time to pull out all the stops."
Early August 2014: "Wow, I got held under 50%! Luckily Kansas doesn't have runoffs so I didn't have to ask Democrats to bail me out like my buddy Thad. That was a pretty bad performance for me, but whatever, at least I won, and that's what counts. Man, that primary really took a lot of my energy. Luckily I can go back to my home in DC to rest since I'm now assured re-election."
Late August 2014: "Hmm, my polls aren't looking too good. The bitter Tea Partiers really need to get over that they lost. Whatever, it makes no difference. Kansas is blood red, I'm the incumbent, and Obama is boosting Republicans everywhere. On top of that, my two opponents are splitting the vote, so I'm still assured of victory. I can just enjoy my time here in DC and coast."
Early September 2014: "Chad Taylor dropped out? Oh sh[inks]. No wonder why the RNC has been blowing up my phone while I was at the DC country club. Staffer, book me the soonest flight to Kansas. NOW! Get Kobach and Rove on the line as well, we need to sort this matter out before it gets out of hand."
Present: "The Supreme Court took Taylor off the ballot...god damn it Kobach, what good are you if you can't even rig this election! YOU HAD ONE JOB!! Man, I'm in deep sh**t now..."

To be continued...

The senile old coot's getting too desperate, too early. No need to unleash the racial dog whistles until at least October.

Roberts must be getting cranky because he's been away from his Virginia home too long.

Let's all take a moment to consider the Fox News reaction if a Democratic senator publicly called the republicans Nazis...
