Why is there so much polling of this race?

Because California is the largest state and this race will affect elections down the ballot.

Why is there so much polling of this race?

A lot of $$ for the polling companies in CA since it's such a huge state, or the "Public Policy Institute of CA" and USC do the polls and it's not like they'll poll other random states.
