I learned this phrase from a friend of mine. It referes to Christian music that uses the same seven words eleven times:

holy
God
almighty
adore
you
forever
amen

Negative, but its also one of those things people love to hate. It's a little too easy to bash. Now something like "Sing A New Church" is a target ripe for bashing... ripping off my favourite hymn Angry

I don't get it; what are these numbers meant to represent?

I presume 7-Eleven music is primarily a Southland phenomenon. Wink

That's the actual answer. 7/11 Christian music is Christian music that uses the same 7 words 11 times. Also, I'm not the worst poster, there are at least 5 worse than me.

Wow, who would have thought that getting an answer to such a simple question would be like pulling teeth?  Why the number 7 and the number 11?  Why not use the same 5 words 23 times?  Or 43 words 3 times?  What is the religious significance of 7 and 11?

Or let me guess: "The answer is that they use the same 7 words 11 times, you see."

There is none. It's just a play on words

Because what song usues 43 words 3 times? Besides, the 7 words (holy, god, almighty, adore, you, forever, and amen) are all incredibly common in Christian music and especially in single songs. It's also a clever reference to a gas station. Is that so hard for you to understand? Or is my sarcasm detector broken?

Positive until the incoherant screaming showed up. Luckily the song is mostly an instrumental.

Even if the lame pun is so obvious that almost no one could miss it, that still begs the question, why those particular seven words?  There are plenty of other common words such as faith, love, Jesus, grace, forgiving, etc. that could easily be subjected to repetition.

Yes, yes it is.  Because what the hell does Christian music have to do with a ubiquitous chain of gas stations/convenience stores?

I know Christians are weird but this is just surreal.

Nothing. The term is pejorative. It's popular because its a neat play on words, not because it carries any theological significance. People that like that sort of stuff refer to it as "Praise Music".

I hear it every Thursday at my school's chapel, so terrible. This week they brought in this girl who gave the standard stump speech about how we need to be saved, but this time she started crying.

Better than the angry parent who addressed us Freshman year and told us that our teachers are misleading us and are not Christians, and ten times better than the guy last year who shouted us during "spirit week" everyday for not singing along with his band.

Pretty bad, but it's easy to avoid. I do recall in church enjoying playing along with it because it's all so exactly the same you can completely tune out and still play through it. And from the congregation it's easy to mouth the words so it looks like you're participating.

My church insisted that worship was a huge priority for believers, so I found it a shame so much praise music felt so uninspired.

I find modern pop/dance music more irritating. Tonight is the night / we love the love / tonight whoaaaaaa
