I've gone on an ignore spree, and can't read anyone's posts in this thread.  Not even my own.  What is this thread about?  I don't know, since I can't read it.  I don't even know what I'm typing.

I'm sure many of you have made some great points, and I'd love to quote them, but I'm ignoring you.

I don't get the "I don't get the point, I'm just going to click show anyway" guys.  Yeah, if you're just going to click show every time then there is no point, the trick is NOT doing that.  And there is different levels of my ignore list.  Most on the list are on there because they bring nothing to the table, good or bad.  I never view their posts.  Others are on the list just to keep me from responding to their trolling.  I'll view their posts on a few select topics.  Some are on there because they were selfish tools with sigs too big (this is especially vulgar if they have sigs on ignore because they find them annoying and then have sigs that are 500 pixels tall...ugggg.  They probably spend all their time in the passing lane too.).

Honest question: How do some of you guys with huge ignore lists even function? I mean do you really just use Atlas as a personal echo chamber?

Most of the people on my ignore list are trolls.  Napoleon and me don't seem to get along at all so I figure it's best for all if we don't interact more than necessary.  So to answer your question, no.

I actually see some value in these threads. It's a chance for posters (A) to see whether they have irritated someone enough to end up on his or her ignore list and (B) to get feedback on whether anyone on their ignore list is worth reading or has become worth reading.

Why is that so problematic? I understand the concerns that some of you have, but do they really outweigh the value of never accidentally reading a post from Aggregate Demand or Pbrower?

Even bad posters can have flashes of insight, or at least spur interesting conversation from time to time.  And it's not that hard to just scroll past.  The "value" you speak of is of negative value to me.

Most of your ignore list is at least tolerable, and there's probably about a half-dozen folks on there who are legitimately high-quality posters whose banishment to your Outer Wastes utterly boggles my mind.

On one hand, I'd list folks... on the other hand, what the hell is the point?  If someone is as ignore-happy as you seem to be, it's clear we have a fundamental disagreement as to what it means to be a forum member, and I'm not sure there's any way to bridge that divide.

It's disappointing, especially coming from someone like you that I generally respect(ed).

Why?  He seems like a cool guy. The other ones I can understand, though BRTD's bests posts are definitely worth reading.

Main reason I don't bother putting many people on ignore is it's kind of pointless. If someone's posts are never worth reading, I just glaze over them anyway. I don't think I've bothered reading an entire pbrower post beginning to end in years, and t_host1 basically doesn't exist in me. My mental filter works well.

On the other hand ignoring such white noise posters draws attention to them. I see the show button, and am more likely to hit it out of curiosity and then end up paying them more attention. So I just stick with mental ignore.

Also makes the situation with hifly funny, since he's basically the same either way. Once I accidentally added him I never got the urge to hit show, so I'm not going through the trouble of removing him.

There are only two posters on my ignore list: one of whom consistently advocates violence and systematized terror to address simple civic issues (not only is it intellectually bankrupt, what a madhouse this country would be if everyone else did the same? I guess that's the point), and the other is just a jerk, imho.

On the other hand, there are lots of routinely-ignored posters who I read anyway because they are well-informed. And the rest (the t_hosts and such like) can be easily glossed over.
