Commissioners taking over has been inevitable since the Jay report last year (because that's the way that central government responds to this kind of thing now).

The report today is both damning and a wonderful insight into how organisations protect themselves, even so much as 'blaming' the victims. Also the asian elephant in the room...

Popular lefty backbencher John Cryer has been elected (unopposed) as PLP Chair. He replaces David Watts (who is retiring at the General Election) who beat Cryer to the post in 2012. Cryer has held Leyton & Wanstead since 2010 and previously represented Hornchurch between 1997 and 2005. He's the son of the late Bob Cryer (MP for Keighley 1974-83, Bradford South 1987-94) and Ann Cryer (MP for Keighley 1997-2010) and like both of them is a member of the Socialist Campaign Group. Anyway, in the event of a hung parliament (and inter party negotiations) this is a not unimportant post.

The Scottish Football Association ran a poll for the Scottish Government about what should be the national anthem of Scotland.

Should 'Flower of Scotland' be officially recognised as the national anthem by the Scottish Government?
Yes - 19,701 (55.8%)
No - 15,574 (44.2%)

If the respondent voted no, then they were asked what it should be - these results are yet to be published though.

Apparently, this will help the Scottish Government decide whether 'Flower of Scotland' should become the official national anthem of Scotland.

Both Scots Wha Hae and Scotland the Brave are better. I would have gone with A Man's A Man for A' That.

Most supports of the Scottish national football team supported independence - my research from before the referendum showed it was by around 9:1.

Caledonia, Scotland the Brave, 500 Miles and God Save The Queen did well. God Save the Queen did well only because the poll was posted on unionist websites - it usually gets booed.

The thing is, by comparison Flower of Scotland is the most upbeat of the home nations, despite being dull. God Save the Queen and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau are both dirges.

At least the Scots have something, rather than celebrating an aged german monarch who's family should of been deposed after WW1

As, this 'argument' raises its head again. So, by your logic, Chuka Umunna is Nigerian, Sajid Javid is Pakistani, Nigel Farage is French and Malcolm Rifkind is in fact Lithuanian?

Out of eight great-grandparents, only one is German (Queen Mary, George V's wife).  Also - Albert died before Germany came into formal existence.

Yeah that's exactly what I think you know. I'm actually that stupid, I really appreciate you bringing this political information to light

There's a reason they changed their name during WW1

A German surname does not make one German.

Reminds me of one of the better trick questions. What nationality was Gustav Holst?*

*The answer, obviously, being english

Even if I supported the monarchy, I could never support the dirge that is currently our national anthem. There's only one good part and that is the instrumental crescendo before 'send her victorious'. Otherwise it's dreck even worse than that dreary Scottish tune.

very interesting, he's also fairly Eurosceptic iirc, he was my local MP, nice guy,

anyway, regarding the anthems (and certain current sporting events) we should pinch Fratelli d'Italia

And in such a manner that we can be sure he will never be re-employed there until the day after the Brothers Barclay sell the paper. I don't agree with his politics, but he's a man of principle and he deserves some kudos for this.
