I'd have to go with the editor of the Tribune.

I'm voting for the man who was born a mile from my home, Horace Greeley.

Greeley

He was a liberal for his times and a reformer. Grant was a weak president who let corruption spread within his administration.

The states that weren't in the union at the time.  There is no 1872 EV calculator so Gustaf had to improvise.

Grant was not a crook. He apointed his friends to important positions, anf they took advantage of him. As for a butcher, Robert E. Lee put it this way," I think General Grant has handled his affairs quit nicely."

A book I once read said that Grant and Greeley were the two worst candidates in history. Neither was fit to be President. Grant was a great man, but hopelessly out of his element in the Presidency.

Never had two more unfit men been offered for President. My vote goes to Greeley. If history would have come true we would have had neither Grant nor Greeley. We would have Benjamin Gratz Brown.

Hebry Adams said of the 1872 Election, "Never have two more unqualified candidates chose to seek the presidency of the United States."
