AKA the battle of the top two movies on IMDB's list.

I definitely vote for The Shawshank Redemption. I couldn't even make it through The Godfather, it was so boring. Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and American Pie are more entertaining films than The Godfather. The Shawshank Redemption is great though.

By default, The Shawshank Redemption.  I simply cannot stand Marlin Brando.

Shawshank is more watchable by a LONG shot.

The Godfather!

Love it, and Coppola's films almost always resonate with me on a personal level. Still have not seen Youth Without Youth, though.

Shawshank, or what I have seen of it, is overrated.

He's barely in the movie, really. At the beginning, yeah, but after that he's basically onscreen just to lay there or come in for a brief scene here and there. Al Pacino, Robert Duvall and James Caan all have more screentime than Marlon Brando does.

That said, I actually prefer Godfather II to the first movie, so I vote Shawshank which I was watching last night and is one of my favorite movies.

The Godfather is one of the greatest movies ever made. I have yet to see the Shawshank Redemption, but I doubt it could be even close to being better.

FWIW, I have a distant cousin who my Aunt is still in contact with who was in the Shawshank Redemption. From what I have been told, he was just an extra...but don't tell him that.

Godfather isn't even the best mob movie. That would be Goodfellas.

I was no fan of The Godfather. Any mafia film fan must place Road to Perdition or Goodfellas over Godfather. I thought all three were quite bad. The Shawshank Redemption was at least entertaining to watch and had fine acting in it. I guess I will go with it.

Phenomenal film.

I will say that Part II is perhaps slightly overrated though.

I must congratulate you, BRTD. Slowly, but you're growing up. A year ago, this thread would, no doubt, be titled "The Godfather vs. My Little Pony".

Just happened to see that Leon: The Professional is #27 on IMDB's list.

It's a very cool movie but I'm kind of surprised it's even in the top 100.

The best best film list is at They shoot pictures, don't they

As for the question at hand - I'd much rather watch The Shawshank Redemption tbh but it's not really all that good.

Both are overrated by good margins but Godfather is more entertaining to me, it's worth the watch.

Goodfellas is better than the Godfather by far though.

A rare moment of agreement between us.  Actually, several of Fellini's films absorbed my interests for some time, but La Strada was particularly compelling.

I watched the Godfather in June 2017, finally, for the first time (at age 50).

I have not completed the Shawshank Redemption, but it's my understanding it's one of the best movies of all time. I can see why it wasn't a box office hit: it's hard to watch in places. I look forward to watching it its entirety; knowing me, I'll probably cry.

My vote: Shawshank Redemption
