The dirty little secret is that Bachman is, and always has been, more of an opportunist than an ideologue. She has been all over the map, depending where she perceives opportunity is knocking. And she knows when to fold - to protect herself. That is my rather uncharitable assessment.

She still has to win re-election. Her district's not even that Republican and MN has gay marriage. It really does become boring once it's adopted, but that doesn't mean that it's not still an extremely salient redmeat issue with rightwingers, most of whom do not live in places like Minnesota.

She's not running though.  And, she recently clarified her comment that she's still committed to opposing gay marriage into the future.
