Democratic politician with South Boston roots, who was  President of the Massachusetts Senate for 18 years and is James "Whitey" Bulger's brother.

I suppose the point was that he may have been one of his brother's protectors and he trivialized his crimes.

Fascinating.

When you compare the two mens' biographies they seem to diverge at an very early point too. When William Bulger was first elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1960, Whitey Bulger was serving time in Alcatraz for armed robbery. Nowadays, your political opponents would probably make an attack ad out of this.

And Whitey Bulger's other brother - John Bulger - apparently worked as a Massachusetts court clerk magistrate.
