Okay, I think this is the actually the worst match-up in the history of presidential elections. Luckily we have Fighting Bob to save us.

Is there any election from 1856 to present in which you don't vote republican?

Not sure, but I'd certainly consider JFK over Nixon, I can't believe I would have voted for Goldwater and I probably would have voted for Cleveland at least once.

This election has the best candidates for both parties of any since 1876. Nonetheless, I shall stick with Coolidge.

I'd take Blaine and Cleveland over Hayes and Tilden.

And I would take Davis, who was the candidate far superior on Prohibition, the tariff, immigration, and the future political prospects of one Herbert Hoover.

Yes, I forgot about 1884.

Wasn't Davis a dry candidate?

Nope, Davis was a wet, but a moderate one (unlike Smith or Roosevelt he didn't promise to allow the sale of beer before the repeal of the 19th amendment).

I stand corrected. It is unfortunate that one of the few times I agree with most of the incumbent's policies I cannot earnestly cast a vote for him.

Davis and Coolidge both did a good job of straddling the fence when it came to Prohibition. Either would have welcomed its repeal, but either would also enforce it as the law of the land.
