Even worse than the political sentiment is the "like and share" virus paradigm of these things. So damn annoying. We played the same stupid game with email years ago and people eventually figured it out. Hopefully, facebook behaviors will adapt too.

Yea, I don't care if family conflicts political stances which mine always do. Politics is just silly and not worth fighting with family over.

I guess I don't see it as political. I see it as pure racism. She is not a women's rights advocate. She's a religious bumpkin with a severe case of xenophobia. I can overlook differences of political opinion because I think they're kind of superficial as long as the person in question is "good." If you're a racist, I think you have a bad heart, and it's kind of as simple as that.

Well, nothing is apolitical. But when someone says "don't take politics personally," I'm thinking more about whether they're conservative or liberal, not whether their soul is full of hate.

Well, I oppose the burka on secular, church / state, and equality grounds, but my family is ridiculously diverse on political grounds, and somehow we really don't talk about it when we all get together, which is rare (nor do we talk religion, because we have Catholic, Protestant, Atheist, and Agnostic - me). I have an uncle whose views are insufferable, which border on fascism, but I just figure, whatever. He should be a character in a story. I don't hang out with him, but Thanksgiving? Yeah, why not.

This is the exact response I aim for whenever I post on the Atlas. Thank you.

Ridicule has its place, but please don't do this. You're only likely to reinforce a person's provincialism by behaving like a snob and acting as if her problem is that she hasn't committed the relevant trivia to memory.

Have you ever had someone cut in front of you at the supermarket who had a cart packed with goods while you only wanted to buy some zucchini and KY? Infuriating stuff. If you're like me, you briefly imagine tipping over their entire cart and pelting them with cans of beef ravioli. But, of course, you only mumble under your breath that they deserve a zucchini up their ass and find a different lane. It is cathartic to imagine being a dick back to someone who deserves it. In fact, it feels better than following through. See the sentence you left out of my post.

Can't we just tar and feather this bitch?  Hagrid seems like such a nice young fellow so this lady has to be part of mutant genepool side of his family.  Ugh.
