Daschle's now publicly criticizing Reid for not endorsing Weiland. Money quote: DSCC polls show Weiland loses in all scenarios. Pubs should thank Daschle for making their job easier.

Daschle is really a moron.

I mean, he was the democrat leader, he should understand how politics work.

He does, which is why this is happening. Also, keep in mind the majority of Daschle's time was as minority leader.

And he also forgot that other party leadership positions in the Senate actually exist. He ran a one man show.

Let's not forget, Daschle convinced Stephanie Herseth Sandlin to sit out by forcing Weiland through.

I don't know what Daschle's obsession with Weiland is, but at the end of the day he's just a random democrat who was never going to win this seat. I've lost all respect for Daschle.

Yeah, I know. Even though Weiland will still on the ballot, he'll probably only get like 4-5%, which would still give Pressler a chance at least.

Weiland has been a lifelong protege of Daschle's since he was in college.

Wow, I didn't realize beloved congressional babe of the mid-00s Herseth-Sandlin was so close to getting into the race. Daschle sucks.

He probably told Sandlin to run in 2016 because he wants to get back at Thune.

Daschle was spineless, and sucked at his job. It's kind of nice that Democrats inherited a Senate leader that actually has a pair.

Yeah, RB, stop it. As the esteemed Secretary Kobach has taught us, Republicans like Phil have a very hard time understanding even the basics of election law.

Again, I already said I know Weiland would remain on the ballot. Dropping out while still remaining on the ballot is hardly unprecedented.

If Daschle wanted to get back at Thune this badly, he should have run himself.

Out of curiosity, is he even still liked in South Dakota??

Daschle is right, Reid is a coward and Dems are cowards for backing Pressler,  Weiland is a populist and the corporate Dems hate him for it. He'd be a really good Senator

The anti-Weiland sentiment has nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with the fact that an unelectable candidate isn't going to legislate anything, regardless of his views.  If Herseth-Sandlin or even Pressler could win and Weiland can't (which is the clearly the case) then Weiland shouldn't receive significant party backing.  He's basically this cycle's Kendrick Meek anyway (except unlike Crist, Pressler actually has...you know...principles).  The goal is to nominate the most liberal person who can win, not the most liberal person who is interested in running.

Right because the Dems haven't tried to skirt election law on numerous other occasions when it comes to keeping/removing candidates from the ballot.
