how many of you have voted for someone who your ideological opposite?

im curious because i was reminded how many father voted for carter (twice).  it just blows my mind, seeing as how my father is very conservative.  but instead of reagan, he opted for carter.  it's baffling.

i voted for jesse helms.  he isnt quite my opposite, but it's safe to say he is a few degrees to the right of me on the social conservatism scale (not to mention civil rights).

I voted for Fisher in the 2002 governors race.  He is my opposite in the fact that he's a pansey.  Smiley  Can't really think of anyother ones off hand.

I just noticed this the other day.  While I feel Israel should be restrained in some manners, my voting patterns in my short voting life have had a lot of Jewish candidates.  For example,

2001 Philadelphia D.A.- Lynne Abraham
2002 PA Governor- Ed Rendell
2003 Philadelphia mayor- Sam Katz
2004 likely-  John Kerry(yes, his father)
                    Allyson Schwartz (PA-13 Congress)

I guess my Irish self is more like them than I think!

I cast my direct vote in the 2003 State elections for Hartmut Holzappel (SPD), against whom I'd railed back when I was a student and he was State Minister for Education. I just dislike the CDU candidate so much. I knew from the polls that it was going to be a pointless statement, though...

My uncle voted for Wallace in '68 Tongue

You should've seen my expression when he said that...

Then again, he votes for the 'major' third party every year... he voted Nader in 2000 Smiley

I voted for Steve Forbes in the 1996 Republican Presidential Primary and in 2000 I voted for McCain. I might have even voted for McCain. I didn't agree with him on all issues but at least I have much more respect for him much than I ever have had for a Republican...unless we go back the first Roosevelt!
